Aspen's Dining Off-Season Runs Longer Than the Ski Calendar Suggests

Three restaurants share the address 205 S. Mill St. As of this weekend, they're on different schedules. Cache Cache served its last summer dinner on Saturday, October 3, and won't reopen until Friday, December 11. In the same building, Campo de Fiori plans to stay open all off-season, opening at 6 p.m. starting October 4 and running Tuesday through Saturday starting October 11. Las Montañas, also there, stops weekend lunch after October 5 but keeps its 3 to 5 p.m. happy hour and dinner from 5 p.m. every night.

Fall in Aspen works this way across town. Restaurants don't all close on one day. They close one at a time over about four weeks, stay dark through a quiet stretch that ends around Thanksgiving, and reopen one at a time over the three weeks after that. Aspen Snowmass plans to open Aspen Mountain and Snowmass on November 26, 2026. Several of the town's best-known dining rooms won't be back until two or three weeks after that.

The Closures Arrive in Waves

Some restaurants closed before October began. Here are the dates from the eatAspen Fall 2026 off-season guide, in order:

  1. Mawita, in the Aspen Airport Business Center, has been closed since September 6 and stays closed through Sunday, December 13.
  2. Duemani on S. Monarch St. closed September 29 and reopens December 4.
  3. BOSQ on S. Mill St. and Cache Cache both closed after October 3. BOSQ is closed through December 10.
  4. PARC Aspen on E. Hyman Ave. closes October 11 and stays closed through December 15.
  5. The Wild Fig on S. Mill St. closes October 18 and stays closed through November 26.
  6. French Alpine Bistro on E. Hopkins Ave. serves its last night October 21 and reopens November 25.
  7. Aosta on E. Durant Ave. and The Monarch Steak House on S. Monarch St. both close October 25 and stay closed through November 26.
  8. Mawa's Kitchen serves its last dinner Saturday, October 31, and its last brunch Sunday, November 1. It's closed November 2 through December 9.
  9. Red Mountain Grill at the Aspen Golf Course expects to close for two weeks in early November. The exact dates haven't been announced.

The guide is the most complete current schedule available, but some listings leave out the year and many restaurants have no status at all. A restaurant missing from this list isn't necessarily closed or open. Call before you go.

The Thin Month Before Thanksgiving

Put those dates side by side and the quietest window runs from about October 25 to the week of Thanksgiving. Through that whole stretch, Aosta, The Monarch, The Wild Fig, French Alpine Bistro, PARC, BOSQ, Cache Cache, Duemani and Mawita are all closed at once. Mawa's Kitchen joins them starting November 2.

Early weekdays are thinner still. Yuki on S. Galena St. stays open through the fall but closes Tuesdays and Wednesdays from October 6 through November 18. Campo de Fiori closes Sundays and Mondays starting October 11. On a Monday in early November, those two restaurants alone take two well-known dinner options off the table, though Monday is the one night Matsuhisa reopens its upstairs room.

Thanksgiving is opening day for the mountain, and it closes a few more doors. Matsuhisa and Yuki both list a full Thanksgiving closure.

Who Keeps the Lights On

Most of the places with announced off-season hours lean casual. These have published hours or schedule changes for fall 2026:

Spot Address Fall 2026 schedule
CP Burger 433 E. Durant Ave. Open all off-season. Starting October 5: 11 a.m.–6 p.m. Sunday–Thursday, 11 a.m.–7 p.m. Friday–Saturday
Crepe Therapy Cafe 401 E. Cooper Ave. Open daily. 7 a.m.–5 p.m. Sunday–Thursday, 7 a.m.–8 p.m. Friday–Saturday
Explore Books Cafe 221 E. Main St. Open 7 days. Cafe 9 a.m.–3 p.m., bookstore 9 a.m.–5 p.m.
Campo de Fiori 205 S. Mill St. Open all off-season. Starting October 11: Tuesday–Saturday from 6 p.m.
Las Montañas 205 S. Mill St. Dinner nightly from 5 p.m., happy hour 3–5 p.m. No lunch until mid-December
Acquolina Trattoria 415 E. Main St. Tuesday–Saturday from 5:30 p.m.
Matsuhisa 303 E. Main St. Open all off-season. Upstairs closed October 6–December 11 except Mondays
Yuki 450 S. Galena St. Nightly from 5:30 p.m. Closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays October 6–November 18

Matsuhisa's Monday exception has a reason. The guide lists Monday Night Football specials both upstairs and at the downstairs bar, but it doesn't give the items or prices. Yuki is running Fall Special Menus: specially priced favorites, cocktail and wine specials, and a bar-only menu of shareable plates.

The guide also marks these as open, without listing hours: Steakhouse No. 316, the remodeled 1888 Victorian on E. Hopkins Ave.; New York Pizza on E. Hyman Ave.; Little Ollie's on S. Hunter St.; Limelight Lounge; Roxy's Market & Cafe and Clark's Market; and Phatt Pho in Clark's Market Plaza. Down-valley, Woody Creek Tavern is listed as open as well. It's the same log-cabin stop we covered in our late-summer Woody Creek weekend.

A New Locals' Address on Hyman Avenue

This fall also brings the newest place to eat in town, and it opened just ahead of the closures. ThreeFifteen held its grand opening on Thursday, September 17, at 315 E. Hyman Ave. across from the Wheeler Opera House. The building is the former home of Eric's Bar and, more recently, Gravity Haus. Under one roof it holds local food and beverage operators, artists, retailers, a tattoo studio, a flexible community and event space, and the Aspen Daily News. The paper moved in after its new owners, Hoffmann Media Group, chose not to renew the lease on its longtime offices at 625 E. Hyman.

Publisher David Cook, one of the project's partners, described what he wanted to show with the building:

"We're really hoping to shift the trend back towards favoring locals for these important buildings in downtown Aspen."

For off-season meals, the useful part of the building is upstairs. Sisters Liz and Sondra Savickas run two spaces there. Eddy's Market is a coffee shop, bakery, artisan market and grab-and-go counter. Eddy's Sit and Stay is a sit-down restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. Liz Savickas calls the all-day menu "all-American." It includes salads, sandwiches, wraps, chicken Parmesan, meatball subs and rotating specials. Eddy's own website lists the market open daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the kitchen open Thursday through Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with happy hour from 4 to 6 p.m. The eatAspen listing shows the kitchen opening at 11 a.m. instead, and neither source says these hours will hold for the whole off-season, so check before you go.

Déjà Nu opened its first downtown salon in the same building with a reception on September 17. It plans to run by appointment through the winter.

Opening Day Is Not Reopening Day

The lifts start turning November 26. The dining rooms come back more slowly:

  • November 25: French Alpine Bistro reopens, one day before the mountain.
  • After November 26: The Wild Fig, Aosta and The Monarch Steak House each list closures that end November 26.
  • December 4: Duemani reopens.
  • December 10: Mawa's Kitchen brings back breakfast and brunch. BOSQ's closure ends the same day.
  • December 11: Cache Cache reopens, and Matsuhisa's upstairs dining room goes back to full service.
  • December 12: Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk open for the season.
  • December 13: Mawita's closure ends.
  • December 15: PARC Aspen's closure ends, and Mawa's Kitchen brings back dinner.

December also brings a newcomer. The ZigZag space at 624 E. Cooper Ave. is closed for the off-season, and the guide says Le Cafe is coming there in December 2026. eatAspen's winter preview places Le Cafe in the former Mezzaluna space but gives no opening date. Over in Snowmass, Ullrhof is set to reopen for winter 2026–27 after a $42 million rebuild. It will be the resort's first all-electric restaurant.

From first closure to last reopening, the restaurant off-season runs from Mawita's September 6 closure to PARC's December 15 return. That's more than three months, and the quiet month in the middle is only part of it. For a Saturday dinner on November 28, two days after the lifts open, The Wild Fig, Aosta and The Monarch should be back, but PARC, Cache Cache and BOSQ won't be. Our Aspen dining guide and winter guide pick up once the full town is open again.
